The tuxedo. Classic black contrasts beautifully with the maple neck/fretboard on this 1987 Charvel Model 1A. It's a good looking guitar. The Model 1A is the most Fender Stratocaster sounding configuration amongst the Model Series. No humbuckers, just straight single-coil old-school sound. The three J100 pickups can get you every variety of "clean" utilizing the 5-way switch. 1As give you the most crunch and bite of Model Series Charvels.
You'll find this particular 1A in all-original, factory-correct configuration. It's all still there and appears never to have been molested. One very important thing about the 1A, at least to me, is the fact only the trem cavity comes routed out of the body. Most of the Model Series have both the trem cavity plus a second control cavity routed out of the back. This means more wood was left intact in the body. And more wood is more tone. And what tone it has! I've been collecting and dealing in Charvel Model Series guitars since 1987 and have owned my fair share of Model 1As. This is by far the best sounding Model 1A I've ever played. A truly exceptional guitar.
1As are really cool guitars and becoming harder to find everyday. It's a "black beauty". The black offsets the maple neck and maple board that give it a very formal tuxedo look for a very attractive guitar. It's got a few scratches and one small impact area. The impact went down to the wood, but it was touched up with matching black paint and doesn't affect the tonal qualities at all. (If it did affect the tonal qualities, I am mimicking this impact on every guitar I own - that's how amazing this guitar sounds.) You can tell this guitar has been played. This is a fine example of a 1A in what I'd characterize as better than good condition. Of course, you be the judge. Please examine the extra large photos very closely.
