1988 JACKSON/CHARVEL MODEL 6

"Beauty and a beast." The king of the Model Series - the Charvel import Model 6!

The Charvel Model 6 was the top of the line offering from Charvel between 1986 and 1988. In fact, the Model 6 served as the prototype and precursorer to the model that later evolved into the beast of all beasts Jackson SL-1 Soloist. The extremely high quality neck-through construction marked the pinnacle of Japanese import workmanship. These guitars can rock it like a pro. Being Charvel's top of the line offering for 1988, this guitar got all the bells and whistles cosmetically. Shark fin mother of pearl neck inlays, bound neck, and bound headstock.

This particular Model 6 is in exceptional condition, which is extremely hard to find here 23 years after the day it was made. Remember, the binding on the neck is not the same piece as the binding on the headstock. The binding is multiple pieces by design. Over 23 years, the binding can shrink due to heat/humidity and some dirt must have worked its way into that seam. It is not cracked or flawed at the binding joint. Overall, this guitar is at least a 9 out of 10.

This Model 6 has been tailored to be a metal monster. In keeping with that metal theme, the stock Jackson J50BC humbucker was swapped for an active EMG 81 humbucker. Here's how EMG describes it...

"One of the most popular EMG’s the 81 is the one that started a revolution. Utilizing powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils, the tone was designed with detailed intensity, incredible amounts of high end cut and fluid sustain. Traditionally used in the bridge position, this pickup will make your leads slice right through even the densest mix. When used in both neck and bridge positions the sound can only be described as blistering."

Presently the 9-volt battery is wired directly to the EMG humbucker. The neck and middle stock J200 stacked humbuckers are not currently wired to the harness, but are present, mounted, and thanks to the professional work, can be resoldered in minutes. Much forethought was apparently done at the time the active EMG was installed as each J200, although currently disconnected, have extremely long leads - neatly coiled and bound - to make their reconnection a snap should you choose to do so. Please see close-up photo of the control cavity with the cover removed (last photo).

This guitar is unique. In your hands she feels just a little different than every other Model 6 you may have ever had the chance to play. It feels a little heavier. It feels more solid. It feels more like a Gibson initially than a Charvel import Model Series. It's a beast. Remember, these guitars came off a production line. But this one doesn't feel like it. She's the one in 100 that came off the line where all its disparate parts came together in such a way to make a superior whole. And when you play it, it feels new. You get the sensation that it was never played much. She's bright, responsive, and addictive to play. Make it yours. Bid now.
