1988 JACKSON/CHARVEL MODEL 6
Neck-through, neck-through, neck-through!!!
The Charvel Model 6 was the top of the line offering from Charvel between 1986 and 1988. It was the flagship model of the import Charvel Model Series. Model 6s got the best pickups, the best electronics, neck-through construction, and all of the cosmetic bells and whistles - bound neck, bound headstock, and mother of pearl shark fin inlay. In fact, the Model 6 served as the prototype and precursorer to the model that later evolved into the beast of all beasts Jackson SL-1 Soloist. The extremely high quality neck-through construction marked the pinnacle of Japanese import workmanship. These guitars rock it like a pro.
Under the hood, the Model 6 got the J200/J200/J50BC pickup package which was specifically designed to work with the JE-1200 pre-amp active mid-boost. In one word, versatile. The J200 stacked humbuckers, which are NOT single-coils, can give an array of clean single-coil sounds when utilized with individual on/off toggles and the JE-1200. The J50BC was designed with the original PAF ("Patent Applied For") humbucker in mind to give a vintage sound, but the use of ceramic magnets gives clarity to the upper harmonics. When you put these versatile pickups together with individual on/off pickup selector toggles and the active JE-1200 mid-boost, you have diverse array of quality sounds and tones to play with. Versatile.
This guitar is in fantastic condition for its age. The famous Charvel pointy headstock still retains all of the original wood/profile and nearly all of the finish paint. Just a speck of paint is missing on its very tip. It's in better shape than 95% of other Jackson/Charvel headstock points. The full neck and headstock binding is in great shape. The Pearl White finish is simply remarkable. Most guitars in the Pearl White finish have heavily yellowed over the years, but not this one. It is the whitest Pearl White finish we've ever seen. This guitar represents what Pearl White looked like when new. The finish has just a couple mars. The first is next to the upper left corner of the tremolo cavity cover. The other on the backside of the neck up between first and second fret. Both are remarkably smooth. The one on the backside of the body is barely perceptible to the touch. The one on the neck can be felt, but it's so subtle that it is imperceptible to your hand while playing. See close-up photos of these two spots. Other than those two areas, there are some scratches in the clearcoat, mostly around the perimeter of the guitar, but not many. The overall condition is remarkable and this guitar is the most beautiful example of Pearl White ever seen.
The finish is nice and everything is original, but does it play? Like you can only hope an import Charvel would. It's that great amazing. The two poplar wings and neck-through rock maple that form the body work harmoniously with the pickups and JE-1200 pre-amp to produce a quality sound. The difference between the sound and tone that a neck-through and what a bolt-on can produce is night and day.
This is a high-quality, amazing guitar in all regards. It won't last long. Make it yours today - bid now.
